At Tronox, we are committed to delivering on our sustainability goals and living our values. Our teams in Australia are making significant strides with the installation of a new 26MW hybrid power system at the Atlas-Campaspe Mine in New South Wales. This innovative solar farm will dramatically reduce the site’s dependence on diesel, marking a major step forward in our journey towards clean energy.
The hybrid power system includes a 10.7MW solar farm and a 3MW/6MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The BESS stores energy generated from solar panels and other sources, releasing it as needed to ensure grid reliability and support the transition to renewable energy. With 12MW of thermal generation, the system is set to power our mineral sands mine with up to 40% renewable energy, displacing nearly five million liters of diesel annually.
The system’s specialized hydrocarbons-off functionality allows Atlas-Campaspe to operate solely on renewable energy when solar power production exceeds mine-site load, expected to be most days.
The Atlas-Campaspe Tronox mine is part of our unmatched vertical integration model, supporting the Tronox specialty plant in Thann, France, where CristalACTiV™ products are produced. These products require specific feedstocks sourced internally at Tronox, ensuring a reliable, stable, and affordable supply of ores while contributing to the traceability of titanium up to its primary source. By sourcing sustainable ores, Tronox supports the reduction of the Product Environmental Footprint.
Tronox is continuously developing new CristalACTiV™ materials to meet existing and future environmental regulations and respond to the needs of innovative applications.
