Sustainable Procurement for a Responsible Business

Achieving our sustainability goals requires close collaboration with our suppliers, who play a crucial role in this process. We prioritize working with suppliers that demonstrate responsible operations and engage with local and diverse business partners that contribute to socioeconomic advancements in the communities where we operate. Our Sustainable Procurement policy specifically targets suppliers deemed high-risk from a sustainability and environmental perspective, particularly those providing goods with a significant carbon impact.

In our efforts to reduce scope 3 emissions by 2030, we focus on suppliers with the highest energy consumption, as they are the largest contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within our supply chain. Since 2020, we have conducted biannual Sustainability Performance Surveys with suppliers in high-carbon impact categories. These surveys are followed by one-on-one discussions to better understand their decarbonization plans and assist them in initiating or accelerating their efforts.

In late 2024, we launched a “Supplier Day” program at our Tronox specialty TiO2 plant in Thann, France, where our CristalACTiV™ and specialty products are manufactured. During this event, we invited suppliers to reinforce our sustainability vision and expectations, as well as to brainstorm ways to improve costs, innovation, safety, and sustainability.

“Identifying and selecting sustainable suppliers is only the first step. Our vision is to help our suppliers continue to progress by collaborating on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance plans throughout the duration of the contract,” said Alexandre Mathieu, Supply Chain Europe and Global Sustainable Procurement

With a strong commitment to delivering sustainable CristalACTiV™ and specialty products, Tronox has become a member of the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). This affiliation allows us to receive an independent, third-party assessment verifying which smelters and refiners have systems in place for responsibly sourcing minerals such as tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold, in accordance with current global standards. Some of our Tronox CristalACTiV™ grades, made at our Thann plant, are tungsten doped TiO2, and we are committed to the responsible sourcing of tungsten based on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) due diligence framework. We have mandated that our suppliers complete an RMI Conflict Minerals Reporting Template and be approved by the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative’s Conflict-Free Smelter Program. Tronox’s Conflict Minerals Policy applies to all employees and suppliers.

At Tronox, we strive to contribute to a circular economy through more sustainable products and supplier relationships.
