Photocatalysis Market Predicted to Reach $2.9 billion by 2020

The demand for photocatalysis solutions is forecasted to grow significantly over the next few years, doubling in size from 2015 to 2020.

A compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.6% for that period has been predicted by BCC Research, which reflects the increase in interest for innovative solutions to complex problems that have been made possible in recent years by technologies such as TiO2 based photocatalytic coatings and transparent treatments as developed by Cristal and our partners.

With these materials and their unique properties becoming more widely known and more efficient products are being developed and marketed, there is a growing interest in utilizing the technology.

Coupled with the improvement in global economic conditions as the hangover from the 2008 financial crisis fades, a number of key industry sectors that stand to benefit from these technologies have returned to growth, increasing both the size of the market, and the likelihood of interested parties using significant quantities of photocatalytic products.

This rising demand has tended to focus mainly on applications related to self-cleaning and anti-pollution treatments for exterior surfaces like buildings, roads, and pavements. However, there is also a growing interest in water treatment and sanitization applications, where photocatalysis has very clear and proven benefits.

This is no great surprise to us here at Cristal, having developed and brought to market truly innovative photocatalytic technologies years ago, it is now encouraging to see that we are well positioned to capitalize on favorable trends in the market going forward.

We are continuing to invest in our photocatalysis portfolio, with a particular focus on solutions aimed at improving exterior air quality, as we look to take advantage of both the public and private sectors’ keener sense of responsibility for their environmental footprint and the world around them.

Recently there has been a shift in the sense of ‘ownership’ of environmental responsibilities and actions away from central governments and more towards the regional, local, corporate and personal level.

Looking further ahead, this may well have a significant impact on future market trends as these passionate people and organizations seek out new ways to limit and negate their environmental impact. We, and others like us, look forward to helping them do just that.

We are very optimistic for the future of our business and the industry and will continue to develop innovative solutions to help solve some of the most pressing issues of our time with brilliance inspired by titanium.
