Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are recognized as an ozone generator and a threat to natural resources, ecosystems and public health. As a consequence, NOx emission regulations keep spreading globally, whatever the source of the pollution. Power plants are still a major source of NOx, and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) has been widely adopted as the best available technology to reduce those emissions. CristalACTiV™ products made in our Thann, France plant have demonstrated their performance for years in all catalyst technologies (extruded, plates, corrugated), and our products can be found in installations across the globe.
SCR technology is now used to reduce NOx and meet emission standards in other stationary industries beyond power plants, such as waste incinerators, industrial processes and marine vessels. For some of these newer applications, catalyst activity at low temperature is critical.
To meet these specific requirements, Tronox has launched CristalACTiV™ SC-10, a new ultrafine TiO2 that can be used as a support for a SCR catalyst while providing improved combined functionalities. Loaded with vanadium, it will provide the catalyst with higher NOx conversion, lower SO2 oxidation and lower ammonia slip versus existing commercial catalysts. This new product also demonstrates an improved thermal stability so that the catalyst activity at low temperatures can be boosted with higher vanadium content. CristalACTiV™ SC-10 is doped with molybdenum through a proprietary process that ensures good stability and low volatility under stationary DeNOx reaction conditions.
Knowing that great powders are useless if they cannot be shaped, Tronox R&D has made CristalACTiV™ SC-10 as easy to process as our well-established commercial products like CristalACTiV™ DT-51 or DT-W5.
Therefore, the additional performance can be achieved through a simple drop-in in existing formulations. The technology is patented by Tronox and contributes to promoting supports for environmental catalysts with improved performance to cost ratio.
Because CristalACTiV™ SC-10 contains molybdenum, rather than tungsten, another advantage resides in the wider availability of this promoter, which can be sourced from multiple places with significant reserves worldwide.
As a result of our multi-year R&D program, Tronox is pleased to offer CristalACTiV™ SC-10 as part of our overall product range for environmental catalysts. Like our other CristalACTiV™ products, it is manufactured at our Thann, France plant and is available in our standard packaging.
Tronox is continuously developing new CristalACTiV™ materials to meet existing and future environmental regulations and respond to the needs of innovative applications.
