Zero Waste for a Sustainable TiO₂ Business

By 2050, Tronox targets zero waste to external dedicated landfills for sustainable TiO2 business.

Tronox’s Thann plant in France is accelerating its environmental efforts with a transformation plan for its effluent neutralization unit located near the production site and operated under Tronox governance.

The team in Thann has set ambitious yet attainable goals:

  • Reduce the quantity of effluent to be treated
  • Enhance the quality of water returned to the river.
  • Reduce  CO2 emissions by optimizing production processes across all three scopes.
  • Maximize the value and reuse of our co-products (red and white gypsum).

In 2021, the plant already reached a significant milestone with the establishment of a recycling unit for sulfuric acid. The recovered sulfuric acid is used in the manufacturing process to digest the ore and produce TiO2 pigment and ultrafine. Moreover, this initiative decreases CO2 emissions, further contributing to and accelerating the plant’s net zero ambitions.
