Since the implementation of the first NOx emission regulation, Tronox has supplied catalyst manufacturers with CristalACTiV™ products to meet the most stringent NOx emission requirements for heavy-duty vehicles.
As CristalACTiV™ products became the standard in the industry, Tronox began working on the CristalACTiV™ MC-5 Series patented technology. We work closely in partnership with our customers, so when the new emission regulations for the automotive industry came about, we were able to better anticipate their needs.
“We have to know the industry and the impact of regulations all the way through the value chain,” said Jean- François Pasquier, director of Commercial, Specialty Chemicals and Materials. “It’s a must. If we’re not connected to our customers’ needs, we can’t anticipate and react quickly enough.”
With the emergence of new regulations, particularly in China and in Europe, we anticipated that more stringency would mean our customers couldn’t use the same type of TiO2-based products in their catalysts. CristalACTiV™ MC-5 Series was developed to help our customers adapt. Tronox now offers two products, CristalACTiV™ MC-500 and MC-508, that are fully commercial.
We also can tailor the product formulation to our customers’ needs with more or less of specific ingredients, providing the best possible solution for their catalyst technologies.
These new products are produced at our facility in Thann, France. We made capital investments in 2016 and again in 2019 to scale up technology for the CristalACTiV™ MC-5 Series as we anticipate demand growth and the launch of future novel products in the series.
Tronox is continuously developing new CristalACTiV™ materials to meet existing and future environmental regulations and respond to the needs of innovative applications.
